Mouse was sold to me as a broodmare to run with my stallion, however, when she got off the box, she certainly was NOT the ‘full up 16hh’ I’d been told she was. In that split second, I decided that she’d be a project to re-back and re-school. My stallion would have broken her, she was far too small and young for him.

Mouse raced as Queen’s Road from the age of 2 – 4 years and was retired from racing in February 2021. I gave her 6 weeks to rest, relax, get to know me and slowly adapt to a different pace of life. Mouse had issues with both shoulders, pelvis, back, neck and hooves. She’d swing her legs wide as she walked to avoid the discomfort in her shoulders whilst trying to keep the weight off of her front hooves. I’ve worked with the farrier and back specialist to correct these issues as well as giving her regular deep tissue massages myself. She is now much happier, more comfortable and loving life! I re-backed Mouse in September 2021 and she keeps going from strength to strength. She is now barefoot. I have registered Mouse as an RoR and hope to compete in show jumping and cross-country events as she definitely has the ability and attitude!

Mouse is confident, sassy, loving, opinionated and a lot of fun. As a well-loved member of the ex-racer herd, she’s established herself as the alpha mare. Mouse has the chance to live a life without racing and get to experience the fun of competing in different environments.
