Equine Merishia Massage

What Is Merishia Massage?

A pressure point technique used to help release muscle spasm and tension; therefore allowing your horse or pony freedom of movement and release from pain. It is a hands-on technique combining massage with myofacial release and stretching. It is a non-invasive yet effective deep tissue massage and can improve sports performance, general comfort and well-being.

Bucking, rearing, avoidance of the bit, inability to work in an outline; all may be influenced by muscle tension. Although other sources must be ruled out as well.

Behavioural issues may well be a sign of muscle tension and spasm preventing the horse or pony from moving correctly.

Movement

What Are The Benefits Merishia Massage?

Tension Release

Massage rids the body of toxins and releases ‘feel good’ endorphins, while relieving the body of stress and tension.

Spasm Release

Easing muscles with effleurage (repeated circular movement made with the palm of the hand) and finger point friction.

Circulation & Recovery

Improve circulation and therefore blood flow. This can aid the rate of recovery after an injury.

Movement

Improves your horse’s flexibility, mobility and suppleness by easing muscle tension and spasm.
